Camping Lanterns

You can get propane lanterns, Kerosene lanterns, natural gas lanterns, white gas lanterns and lanterns that run off batteries – always be sure to use the recommended fuel for your camping lantern.

Kerosene lanterns give off a soft white glow and give an old time feeling of lighting long ago. natural gas lanterns and propane lanterns burn very bright and are a great choice for lighting up larger areas.

Coleman battery lanterns can have double florescent lights and are good for tents or small spaces or around small kids.

Some camping lanterns use mantle bags, you fill the tank with the appropriate fuel and pump the tank to build pressure and light with a match through a lighting hole under the base of the globe.

You can expect to pay anywhere from 15.00 to 150.00 for a camping lantern.

  • How many BTU's does the camping lantern have?
  • Type of flame the lantern has - You can get flame producing heaters or infra-red heaters etc
  • What type of base support does the lantern have - Some sit on a counter or the ground, some hang
  • Ease of use of the lantern
  • Fuel requirements of the lantern
  • Size of fuel tank the lantern has
  • Wind buffers or globe on the lantern
  • Lighting capabilities of the lantern

Camping Lanterns usually stay lit up to 8 to 10 hours per filling.

If you use a camping lantern with a wick, do not leave the oil in the lantern, put the oil back into the original container that is clearly marked camping fuel. If your camping lantern has a glass globe, clean the globe and prepare for storage.
